UV and Your Child’s Eyes

UV radiation can cause long-term damage to your child's eyes, just as it can to their skin. Protecting your child now will decrease the potential for serious eye problems later in life. Children are more vulnerable than adults to the effects of ultraviolet radiation.

Children spend more time outdoors and thereby receive approximately three times the annual dose of UV than adults.  In fact, the World Health Organization estimates that up to 80% of a person's lifetime exposure to UV radiation occurs before age 18.  

Additionally, the crystalline lens in children’s eyes has less capability to filter UV than in adult eyes, resulting in greater risk for internal eye damage (cataracts and macular degeneration) later in life.

The following are a selection of the different colour tinted lenses we can offer to you in your sunglasses:

Gray lenses offer least colour distortion of all tints and are suitable for all weather conditions.

Brown lenses enhance contrast and reduce glare. They are particularly suited to cloudy days.

Yellow lenses enhance contrast in fog or low light conditions. Ideal for driving.

Green enhances contrast and reduces eyestrain. Excellent for sports like golf.

UVB and UVA explained

UVB - B is for Burning

Responsible for causing sunburn and can quickly damage eye tissue with prolonged and unprotected exposure. All sunglasses must filter out UVB.

UVA - A is for Ageing

These rays tan your skin but also cause premature ageing and can accelerate the development of age related illnesses. They cause damage over a long period and excessive exposure can damage eyesight.
